Skirt: BDG | Top: Forever 21 | Jacket: Rafaella (thrifted) | Shoes: Banana Republic | Bag: Coach

I tried to make a “date night” outfit for this shoot, so it’s a little dressy, but still comfortable and not over-the-top. If there is one thing I’m obsessed with for fall, it is button front skirts. A few of my favorite bloggers have been wearing them lately and I’ve come to think of them as the perfect piece for transitioning to fall wear. The best part is that you can get these skirts in almost any material. The one I’m wearing is corduroy, but I’ve also seen them in jean and suede. I chose this one because I have been really into the color navy lately. Sometimes I get bored with black because it seems to be all anyone wears these days, and also because it can look very harsh. To me navy is the muted down, slightly more fun version of black.

In addition to navy, my other favorite fall colors so far this season have been burnt orange, cream, mustard, and forest green. I’m not wearing any green in this but I did just buy a military jacket that you guys will definitely see soon. For me, dressing for fall is like finding ways to add warmth and earth tones to lighter outfits. My first choice during fall isn’t always a pair of skinny jeans and a canvas jacket, because that has become so mainstream it’s a little boring now. Because all of the fall colors tend to be muted, I feel okay with mixing two or three of them, though usually I tend to only wear one color at a time with neutrals. Orange and blue are complementary colors, so I love the effect it gives when you mix these two darker shades.

These shoes were $15 dollars in the final sale section of Banana Republic, so of course I bought them. They are a two strap heel, which is the most popular style right now, but they are a little different because the front strap is suede, and they have a chunky heel. I have found that I actually tend to get my best buys from the clearance racks at stores like JCrew and Banana Republic and Zara, because their clothes are better quality and tend to be more wearable than a lot of the uber trendy stuff you can find at Forever 21 and H&M.

The whole last week I’ve just spent playing with different ways to wear my hair. I have to say that I’m surprised how many options I have since I really don’t have that much hair.

Anyways that is all for today, I’m glad I finally got to do this shoot because I feel like it’s been forever since I’ve done one (because I was sick and all that jazz).

So, thanks for reading,

[It’s Elementary, Dear]
